Summer 2026

Summer brings, in our Vocation Ministries Office, a time of change as Fr. Rodrigo Ulloa, our Director of Vocation Ministries, departs this ministry with much gratitude for the blessings he’s experienced through it.  In our Summer 2026 newsletter, Fr. Rodrigo offers parting words and photos that look back over his past six years as Vocation Director.  As Fr. Rodrigo remarks, “Praying our goodbyes is part of being a missioner… In moving on to my next assignment – our Formation House in Chicago – my bag is full of joy and my heart is bigger with the love of Christ, in whom we move, live, and have our being.”  We are grateful to Fr. Rodrigo for his years of service in vocation ministries.

We also announce the tentative dates of our next “Come and See” missionary discernment retreat — October 16th to 18th in Chicago, Illinois.  Please consider joining us for a weekend of insight, inspiration and encouragement in your own discernment of God’s call to missionary priesthood or Brotherhood.  If you would like to learn more, please email us at vocation@maryknoll.org.

    In this episode, Father Mike Snyder joins us to share his story about his foreign mission work in East Africa, how he saw the face of Jesus Christ in an old lady named Stella and how the music he plays on his guitar has united people from all parts of the world.About Father MikeFr. Mike Snyder M.M. is a native of Rutherford and Wayne, New Jersey. After ordination, he was assigned to Tanzania, East Africa where he served for a total of 26 years.During that time he was stationed in various mission parishes and most recently he served as the chaplain at the Muhimbili University of Health & Allied Sciences (the national medical university of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam).  Fr. Mike has served in various leadership positions with Maryknoll, including as Vocation Director from1999-2006.  He was re-assigned to vocations in Oct. 2015.

  • Authentic Change of Heart, Journey of Faith

    Today’s Gospel story of Zaccheus, the “short guy in the sycamore tree,” is both well-known and popular. Who is this man, what is his identity? He was a chief “publican” and a corrupt man. Publicans were Jews who worked for the foreign Romans; they betrayed their own homeland and people. As a tax collector, Zaccheus sought money in customs tariffs and various illegitimate means. He exploited people, benefitting himself instead of helping others.
