Over the past two years, Father Siyumbu has walked closely with parishioners facing severe food insecurity. Many families came to him in dire need, and in response, he offered what help he could— often distributing bundles of food to sustain them. While these emergency efforts brought relief, Father Siyumbu recognized that they could not provide lasting solutions.

Together with a group of parish youth, Father Siyumbu began exploring innovative approaches and discovered that sustainable food production could offer long-term benefits for the entire community. Already, an important first step has been taken: the leasing of a plot of land for cultivation. Building on this foundation, the Sustainable Food Generation Project will provide a reliable source of food for vulnerable parishioners, as well as local children’s homes and elderly care facilities.

A key element of this project is the involvement of the parish’s Lectio Divina Youth Group, which will help run the initiative. In this way, the project not only ensures food security but also empowers young people to take leadership in service, deepening their commitment to faith in action. Ultimately, this initiative will reduce food scarcity by engaging parishioners directly, helping them move away from dependency on handouts and toward building a more sustainable, self-reliant future.
